MEDITATION for ALL AGES
Meditation at Seido is a non-religious practice that’s inseparable from our physical training, as true karate strives to develop both the physical body and a calm, focused mind.
We also have outdoor and community events, such as our annual sunrise beach training, when we start the morning sitting in “zazen” and meditating to the sounds of the ocean. We also host an annual holiday walking meditation, where students walk in silence through the streets of Manhattan to deliver donations to local charities.
Meditation is also an important part of our kids and teen programs.
Seido Karate is not just about kicking and punching; it’s also a moving zen, and the meditation classes offer each child and teen the chance to better focus their breathing, bodies, and minds. As the child and teen karateka promote to each new belt, there are meditation requirements to help in their progress.
Zen Meditation classes and lectures for adults on Japanese philosophy, given by Kaicho T. Nakamura and Nidaime A. Nakamura are an integral part of Seido training.
